My favourite Chapter
Personally, my favourite chapter among all the chapters was when Joseph tries to escape from the prison camp. It was making me feel tense and excited: The author used short sentences and gave impact: "Suddenly the line snapped. The guard fell back, stricking his head sharply on the floor. The hook was lost". I think he used this technique to make us feel like the character, Joseph. I liked it when he had finally managed to get out of the cell instead of the soldier particularly, "He smiled to himself as he locked the guard in the freezing cell. Then, turning up his collar so that the tips touched his cheek-bones, he went out into the bitter night". I think I liked this part the most because it showed us that there are possibilities that the family might find each other.
My least Favourite Part
I quite didn't like the ending because it was too unrealistic. I think it's a miracle that Joseph and Margrit both survived and found each other. But in the end, the children and they meet, which I think that doesn't make sense. Even adults would find it difficult to avoid getting spotted and journey a long way, walking, being carried by bad transportations, canoeing, etc. Also, Jan says, "Everything in the box is lost". But later on, he shows the Silver Sword hanging from his neck. I think it is amazing that a boy like him can keep something that is so small and lose everything else he loved and admired. In addition, I think Edek wouldn't be alive if this was a more realistic story because he had suffered so much and it is unbelievable that he could live and go to study engineering.
